Matelo Original is cold-brewed yerba maté, lightly sparkling, in a 330ml can. That's it. No fruit flavours to mask what maté actually tastes like. No artificial sweeteners hiding behind clever wording. Just 4 ingredients. Yerba maté, water, unrefined cane sugar and lemon juice. It tastes clean and crisp, with a soft grassy note and the gentle earthiness maté is known for. There's a light natural bitterness to it, similar to you'd find in a good green tea, with a toasted finish that sticks around. Refreshing more than sweet. Closer to a proper iced tea than a soft drink. We drink ours cold, straight from the fridge, or poured over ice with a wedge of lemon. It's good in the morning, better in the afternoon, and works well as a mixer with white rum, gin or vodka when the evening calls for it. If you've never tried maté before, this is a good place to start. If you already know it, we think you'll recognise the real thing.
